A Stoneware Tankard
Creussen, 2nd half of the 17th Century
Brown, salt-glazed stoneware, embellished in enamels and gilding. Pewter cover. Cylindrical form with a slightly flared foot and retracted rim, ear-shaped handles with lion mask and palmette thumbpiece. Relief decorated with a frieze of the Lamb of God flanked by the twelve apostles, separated by lilies of the valley and point rosettes, foliate borders. The foot rim inscribed with the name "IOHAN : GEORG HASS". Height 19 cm.
