A Parrot
South German, circa 1600
Perched on a branch, head slightly tilted to the right. Bronze, brown patina. Beak with remnants of gilding. Plinth in the form of a tree stump (later?). Height (including plinth) 27 cm. Remarkably naturalistic reproduction of the plumage with meticulous surface detail. Possibly formerly part of a table clock. Comparable, for example, with a South German figurine clock of the period (circa 1580/90) in the form of a parrot in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna (inventory no. Kunstkammer, 6862). Provenance: Neumeister Auction 19/06/1990, lot 113.
