According to kind information from Dr Bernd Konrad, Constance, the present painting is a work by the "Master of the Ilsung Madonna". This artist was active in Augsburg around 1475. As his biography is still unknown, he is named after his Madonna panel for the Augsburg Basilica of St Ulrich and Afra, which bears the coat of arms of the prestigious Ilsung patrician family.
