Augsburg, 1687 - 1691 Johann Andreas Thelott (as a journeyman in the workshop of his father Israel Thelott)

 

Silver, partly gold-plated. Tapering cylindrical form with reeded rim. Chased and embossed relief decoration with a figural representation of the month of September and Zodiac sign Libra depicting falconers and a maid harvesting fruit, between stylised borders. Hallmarked (Seling 2007, hallmark number 900, makers mark number 1846), master 1689, died 1734. Assayers mark. Height 9.5 cm. 161 grams. "The Thelott workshop produced mainly hammered figurative reliefs ... Paul v. Stetten praises Thelott as the most famous artist in hammered work in 1779 ... Outstanding works include a desk in the Munich Residenz, an altar of St. Kilian in Würzburg as well as a ewer and basin for Augustus II the Strong in Dresden".
