A CABINET

Southern Germany, mid 16th century

 

Oak, flowering ash and other woods. Middle section removed during restoration in 1973 (see restoration label of Alfred R. Goering, dated 15th July, 1973). Restored, later additions, damaged. 232 x 201 x 64 cm.

 

Insert for the middle section preserved with contemporary lettering Wenczelaus grinberger / von olmütz (?) / Hoc fecitt 1556.

 

Provenance: according to information from the previous owner, formerly owned by the counts of Arco-Zinneberg in Castle Schönburg, Pocking (Passau district), since then in the ownership of Southern German nobility.
