A GOLD POCKET WATCH WITH CHATELAINE
Paris, circa 1790, Chatelaine: 19th Century, BERTHOUD
18K and 8K yellow and rose gold and gold plated silver. Makers marks, some of which are rubbed. Movement signed Berthoud, Paris. Rhinestones. Painted enamel. Some rhinestones are missing. A plastic cover has been fitted to the case back to protect the miniature. The gold is damaged in a few places due to the addition of the plastic cover. The key is missing.
Diameter circa 4 cm. Total weight: circa 75.67 g.
White enamel dial with painted black Arabic hour numerals, outer minute indications, gilt Louis XVI hands. The case back with painted enamel decoration of a woman wearing a bonnet, surrounded by fine rhinestone-set foliate decoration in relief. Pierced and engraved balance bridge. The accompanying chatelaine with conforming enamel decoration.
