Germany, circa 1925
18K yellow gold (750/-) and platinum 950/-, tested. 17 round facetted rubies, altogether circa 0.45 carats. 1 engraved amazonite.
Circa 3.9 x 1.6 cm. Circa 12.1 g.
Technical execution: the face of Nefertiti is finely hand engraved and set with the ornate gold elements.
After the discovery of the Tutankhamen tomb in 1922, the fashion for all things Egyptian was all the rage. Ten years earlier, the bust of Nefertiti had been discovered by the German Oriental Society under the direction of Ludwig Borchardt. Although, it was not until 1924 that it was presented to the general public on Museum Island in Berlin.
