Lily of the Valley Brooch
1950s
18K yellow gold (750/-), stamped. Hallmarks. 9 small, brilliant-cut diamonds. 9 carved rock crystal lily of the valley flowers, a carved jade leaf. Very good condition.
Circa 8.9 x 5.6 cm. Circa 27.5 g.
The lilies of the valley have been reproduced in a very naturalistic manner. The styles of the flowers have been made using small bales, each one with a small diamond drop that really bring the piece to life.
Lilies of the valley are common known as a symbol for happiness and love. To this day, May 1st is considered to be the day of the lily of the valley ("la journée du muguet") in Paris and, according to tradition, lily-of-the-valley bouquets are given away, so that the recipient will be fortunate all year round.
