BROOCH IN THE FORM OF A FLOWER SET WITH RUBELLITE, DIAMONDS AND PLIQUE-À-JOUR ENAMEL

Germany, 1970s

18K yellow gold, stamped. Goldmakers mark K. 2 brilliant-cut diamonds, altogether circa 0.10 carats. 1 diamond-cut rubellite, circa 16 x 8.8 mm. Pink plique-à-jour enamel, beige and blue-grey, as well as, black opaque enamel.

Circa 4.6 x 5.8 cm. Circa 23.77 g.

The brooch captivates by its use of Plique-à-Jour enamel, which is also known as window enamel. The manufacturing process of this particular type of enamel is extremely difficult due to its fragility, meaning that only very skilled craftsmen are able to work with it. Known since the 6th century, it experienced a veritable heyday at the end of the 19th century. The most renowned masters in this field are René Lalique (1860-1945) and Eugene Feuillâtre (1870-1916).
