description:

A DIAMOND AND EMERALD SET BRACELET

Dublin, circa 1860, WEST & SON

12K yellow gold, tested. Signed West & Son Dublin 407. 6 small old-cut diamonds and 3 small rose-cut diamonds. 4 octagonal and hexagonal step-cut emeralds, altogether circa 3 carats (calculated weight).

Length circa 21 cm. Circa 39.38 g.

The bracelet represents a ribbon, a highly fashionable accessory at the time. To imitate the material exactly, all the skills of the goldsmith were necessary. The choice of the emerald as a gemstone was not accidental here, as the colour was very fashionable at the time. Even wallpaper and fabrics were almost exclusively kept in green.
