A Bangle and a Pendant
Russia, circa 1880
14K red gold (585/-), stamped. 2 rectangular rubies, together circa 0.40 carat. Very good condition.
Bangle: inner circumference: circa 16.5 cm. Pendant: circa 4.8 x 3.1 cm. Circa 33.50 g.
The scrolled decoration is very finely executed, requiring a great deal of skill. The pendant can also be worn as a brooch.
The equivalent of 14K gold in Russian standard is usually very slightly lower in purity at 560 instead of 585. The above two pieces of jewellery are, however, both 14K (585/-) gold, corresponding to the common European standard.
