The star shape makes a striking impression. A five pointed star is also known as a pentagram. The symbolism of the pentagram is diverse and can be found in many cultures. In ancient times it was the symbol of Venus, whilst Christians interpreted the points of the star as symbolising the five wounds of Christ. In the Middle Ages, the pentagram was considered a badge against evil and was a symbol of protection against the nocturnal spirits. Furthermore, as a Masonic symbol, the five points stand for the virtues of wisdom, justice, strength, moderation and diligence.
