The revival of the Rococo style introduced totally new forms to the world of jewellery after 1830. The typical Rococo ornament, the Rocaille, had surprisingly little effect on the jewellery design of the 1800s. This changed during the Recoco Revival of the 1900s, when design leaned heavily towards the use of the rocaille which often lead to asymmetrical shapes. The combination of sweeping loops, as shown in the necklace, is one of the most popular ornamental motifs seen in jewellery from this period.
