A Ring in the Shape of the Napoleonic Bee

France, circa 1860

 

14K gold and silver, tested. Circa 57 rose-cut diamonds, altogether circa 0.50 carat. 2 cushion-cut rubies, altogether circa 0.20 carat. 6 cushion-cut sapphires, altogether circa 0.30 carat. 20 cushion-cut emeralds, altogether circa 0.40 carat. Minor nicks to one of the rubies.

Ring size: EU 54, UK N, US 6.75. Circa 16.0 g.

 

French jewellery originating from the time of the reign of Napoleon III. Bonaparte is often decorated with the emblem of his great ancestor - the bee. The current piece of jewellery was originally designed as a pendant but has been reworked into a ring during the 1950s.
