biography

Heinz Kreutz was born, in 1923, in Frankfurt. During the Second World War, he was called up to serve in the German army, but he had to spend a long time in the hospital, where he started drawing. In 1951 he spent some time in Paris, where he discovered the impressionistic style of painting. In 1952, he was one of the founding members of the group of artists "Quadriga", which helped the Informal Art breakthrough. In the 1960s, he traveled to Paris for a study trip, where he occupied himself with water colours and theory of colour, which led to his "square paintings" in the late 1960s. In 2002 he and the other members of the Quadriga were awarded the Binding Culture Prize of the City of Frankfurt. The works of Heinz Kreutz are now in the Museum for Modern Art in Frankfurt and in the Altana Cultural Foundation.
